    Chapter 2 Loading documents You can send a fax, make copies, and scan from the ADF (automatic document feeder) and from the scanner glass. Using the ADF The ADF can hold up to 15 pages and feeds each sheet individually. Use standard 20 lb (80 g/m ) paper and always fan the pages before putting them in the ADF.

    Paper Size You can use five sizes of paper for printing and copying: Letter, Legal, A4, A5 and 4 × 6 in. (10 × 15 cm) and three sizes for printing faxes: Letter, Legal and A4. When you change the size of paper you load in the machine, you will need to change the paper size setting at the same time so your machine can fit an incoming fax on the page.

    Chapter 3 Beeper Volume When the beeper is on, the machine will beep when you press a key, make a mistake or after you send or receive a fax. You can choose a range of volume levels, from High to Off. Press Menu.

    Faxing from the scanner glass You can use the scanner glass to fax pages of a book one at a time. The document can be up to Letter or A4 size. You cannot send color faxes with multiple pages.     Chapter 5 Broadcasting (Black & White only) Broadcasting is when the same fax message is automatically sent to more than one fax number. You can include Groups, Speed Dial numbers and up to 50 manually dialed numbers in the same broadcast. After the broadcast is finished, a Broadcast Report will be printed.

    Chapter 5 Contrast If your document is very light or very dark, you may want to change the contrast. For most documents the factory setting Auto can be used. It automatically chooses the suitable contrast for your document. Use Light when sending a light document. Use Dark when sending a dark document.

    Dual access (Black & White only) You can dial a number and start scanning the fax into memory—even when the machine is sending from memory, receiving faxes or printing PC data.     Chapter 5 Delayed Batch Transmission (Black & White only) Before sending the delayed faxes, your machine will help you economize by sorting all the faxes in the memory by destination and scheduled time.     Will you be using Voice Mail on the same telephone line as your Brother machine? If you have Voice Mail on the same telephone line as your Brother machine, there is a strong possibility that Voice Mail and the Brother machine will conflict with each other when receiving incoming calls. See Voice Mail on page 54 for instructions on setting up your machine using this service.

    Receive mode settings Ring Delay The Ring Delay sets the number of times the machine rings before it answers in Fax Only or Fax/Tel mode. If you have external or extension telephones on the same line as the machine, keep the ring delay setting of 4 rings.     Chapter 6 Easy Receive If Easy Receive is On: The machine receives a fax call automatically, even if you answer the call. When you see Receiving on the LCD or when you hear “chirps” through the handset you are using, just replace the handset. Your machine will do the rest.

    Chapter 7 Recording outgoing message (OGM) on an external TAD Timing is important in recording this message. The message sets up the ways to handle both manual and automatic fax reception. Record 5 seconds of silence at the beginning of your message. (This allows your machine time to listen for the fax CNG tones of automatic transmissions before they stop.)

    The third way is the easiest: Buy a triplex adapter. You can plug a triplex adapter into an RJ14 outlet. It separates the wires into two separate RJ11 jacks (Line 1, Line 2) and a third RJ14 jack (Lines 1 and 2). If your machine is on Line 1, plug the machine into L1 of the triplex adapter.
