Points concerning the position of the printed copy image Even if the same original is copied onto the same type of paper, differences in the original size, scanning location (document glass or document feeder tray), selected paper tray, enlargement/reduction ratio, and other conditions may cause the position of the printed copy image on the paper to vary.
COPY FUNCTIONS MAKING A COPY DARKER OR LIGHTER The copy exposure can be adjusted as needed to the original. Three exposure modes are available: "AUTO", "TEXT" and "PHOTO". When "TEXT" or "PHOTO" is selected, the exposure can be manually adjusted to 5 levels. Auto This is the default exposure mode.
SELECTING THE TRAY Auto paper select mode (p.31) normally operates (unless it has been disabled), and thus when the original is placed on the document glass and the original size is selected, or when the original is placed in the SPF/RSPF, the tray with the same size of paper as the original is automatically selected.

USING THE BYPASS TRAY TO COPY A SPECIAL SIZE ORIGINAL When the bypass tray is being used for copying and an original that is placed on the document glass is detected as being a special size, the display will prompt the user to set the original size. To make a copy in this type of situation, follow the steps below.

If you are unable to solve the problem using the troubleshooting guide, turn off the power switch and unplug the machine, and contact your authorised service representative.
MACHINE/COPYING PROBLEMS The following problems are related to the general operation of the machine and copying. Problem The machine does not operate. Copies are too dark or too light. Blank copies. Part of the image is cut off or there is too much blank space.
Problem Paper misfeed. Cause and solution Misfeed occurs. → To remove the misfeed, see "MISFEED REMOVAL". The paper is outside of the specified size and weight range. → Use copy paper within the specified range. Paper curled or damp. → Do not use curled or crimped paper. Replace with dry copy paper. During periods when the machine is not used for a long time, remove the paper from the tray and store it in a dark place in a bag to prevent moisture absorption.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem The original size is not automatically selected or the copy is not made on paper that matches the size of the original. Copies are smudged or dirty. White or black lines appear on copies. Paper size for a paper tray cannot be set.

Problem A Notice Page (NP-001) has been printed, but the print data has not been printed completely. Printing is slow. The printed image is light and uneven. The printed image is dirty. The printed image is skewed or it runs off the paper. Cause and solution A print job containing more data than can be held in the print memory is sent to the machine.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem The printed image is darker or lighter than expected. Poor scanning quality. MISFEED REMOVAL When a misfeed occurs during copying, the message " Check the location and remove the misfeed. The paper may tear when you remove a misfeed. In this event, be sure to remove all torn pieces of paper from the Note machine, taking care not to touch the photoconductive drum (the green part).
TROUBLESHOOTING Section C Remove the misfed original from the exit area. If the misfed original cannot be easily removed from the exit area, open the moveable part of the document feeder tray and remove the original. Open and close the SPF/RSPF to make the misfeed location indicator stop blinking.

CHECKING THE TOTAL OUTPUT COUNT To check the total number of pages output in copy, print, and fax modes and the total scan count in scanner mode, hold down the [COPY] key when the machine is in the standby state.
