HP specifies in the materials shipped with a replacement CSR part whether a defective part must be returned to HP. In cases where it is required to return the defective part to HP, you must ship the defective part back to HP within a defined period of time, normally five (5) business days. The defective part must be returned with the associated documentation in the provided shipping material.

Preventing electrostatic discharge To prevent damaging the system, be aware of the precautions you need to follow when setting up the system or handling parts.
CAUTION: When performing non-hot-plug operations, you must power down the server blade and/or the system. However, it may be necessary to leave the server blade powered up when performing other operations, such as hot-plug installations or troubleshooting. Symbols on equipment The following symbols may be placed on equipment to indicate the presence of potentially hazardous conditions.
IMPORTANT: When the server blade is in standby mode, auxiliary power is still being provided to the system. Depending on the Onboard Administrator configuration, use one of the following methods to power down the server blade: • Press and release the Power On/Standby button. This method initiates a controlled shutdown of applications and the OS before the server blade enters standby mode.
Remove the server blade. Place the server blade on a flat, level work surface. WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal system components to cool before touching them. CAUTION: To prevent damage to electrical components, properly ground the server blade before beginning any installation procedure.
Open the server blade latch. Install the server blade. Access panel To remove the component: Power down the server blade (on page 23). Remove the server blade (on page 24). Press the access panel release button. Removal and replacement procedures 26...
Slide the access panel towards the rear of the server blade, and then lift to remove the panel. To replace the component: Place the access panel on top of the server blade. Slide the access panel forward until it clicks into place. Drive blank Remove the component as indicated.

Install the mezzanine card in the mezzanine assembly, and then tighten the mezzanine card screws to secure the card to the mezzanine assembly. Align the mezzanine assembly with the guide pins on the system board, and then install the mezzanine assembly on the system board.
Remove the access panel ("Access panel" on page 26). Remove the mezzanine assembly ("Mezzanine assembly" on page 29). Use the FlexibleLOM handle to remove the FlexibleLOM from the system board. To replace the component, reverse the removal procedure. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the system board, processor socket, and screws, do not overtighten the heatsink screws.

Install the processor socket cover onto the processor socket of the failed system board. Clean the old thermal grease from the heatsink with the alcohol swab.
If you suspect a TPM board failure, leave the TPM installed and remove the system board. Contact an HP authorized service provider for a replacement system board and TPM board.

HP iLO The iLO subsystem is a standard component of HP ProLiant servers that simplifies initial server blade setup, server health monitoring, power and thermal optimization, and remote server administration. The iLO subsystem includes an intelligent microprocessor, secure memory, and a dedicated network interface.

Gen8 servers, HP SSA replaces ACU with an enhanced GUI and additional configuration features. HP SSA exists in three interface formats: the HP SSA GUI, the HP SSA CLI, and HP SSA Scripting. Although all formats provide support for configuration tasks, some of the advanced tasks are available in only one format.
ASR is a feature that causes the system to restart when a catastrophic operating system error occurs, such as a blue screen, ABEND (does not apply to HP ProLiant DL980 Servers), or panic. A system fail-safe timer, the ASR timer, starts when the System Management driver, also known as the Health Driver, is loaded. When the operating system is functioning properly, the system periodically resets the timer.
