MAINTENANCE
SYMPTOM
Starter motor will not operate

TROUBLESHOOTING

POSSIBLE CAUSE
• Shift handle not in NEUTRAL.
• Fuse blown. Refer to FUSE on page 30.
• Battery is dead.
• Not following starting instructions. Refer to ENGINE STARTING on
page 19.
• Fuel tank empty.
• Fuel hose kinked.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
• Fuel filter obstructed.
• Throttle not at IDLE. Return throttle to IDLE.
• Spark plugs incorrect. Refer to SPARK PLUGS on page 42.
• Spark plugs improperly gapped, carboned, burned, or wet.
• Fuse blown. Refer to FUSE on page 30.
• Flashing "Water Temp" or hot light, refer to ENGINE MONITOR-
ING on page 32 and ENGINE OVERHEATING on page 34.
• Flashing "Check Engine" or "Chk Eng" light, refer to ENGINE MON-
ITORING on page 32.
• Debris on propeller.
• Spark plugs damaged or incorrect. Refer to SPARK PLUGS on
page 42.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
• Spark plugs damaged or incorrect. Refer to SPARK PLUGS on
page 42.
• Fuel filter obstructed.
• Fuel system contaminated with water or dirt.
• Water intakes obstructed and cooling system not operating cor-
rectly. Refer to ENGINE OVERHEATING on page 34.
• Oiling system malfunction.
• S.A.F.E. protection mode activated. Refer to ENGINE MONITOR-
ING on page 32.
• Propeller hub loose, slipping.
• Propeller blades bent or missing.
• Propeller shaft bent.
• Propeller debris.
• Refer to ENGINE MONITORING on page 32.
