11. Wait until the test strip symbol and drop symbol flash in the display.
12. Hold the meter so the test strip is pointing downwards.
13. Hold the tip of the test strip against the drop of blood so the black
notch is touching the drop of blood.
The test strip draws up blood.
The test starts when the test strip has drawn
up sufficient blood. The result is displayed as
soon as the test is complete. At the same
time the meter automatically saves the
result to memory.
You can flag results obtained from alternate site testing as special
results with an asterisk
. Please consult the instructions for use of the
meter for information on how to flag results.
14. Hold the meter over a waste bin with the test strip pointing down-
wards.
15. Press the Test button to turn the meter off. The used test strip drops
out.
16. Remove the AST cap from the lancing device and dispose of the
used lancet.
Carefully dispose of used lancets so that the needles cannot
cause injury.

17. Place the coloured cap back on the lancing device.

14. 3 Cleaning the AST cap

Follow a weekly cleaning regime using a cloth moistened with 70 %
ethanol or 70 % isopropanol (available in pharmacies). In addition, thor-
oughly wipe the inside of the AST cap using a cotton bud moistened
with one of the two cleaning fluids mentioned.
Allow the AST cap time to dry thoroughly.
Never dip the AST cap in the cleaning fluid.
Cleaning fluid left in contact with the AST cap for too long can
attack the material from which it is made, stopping it from func-
tioning properly.
Use only 70 % ethanol or 70 % isopropanol to clean the AST cap.
Other substances used for cleaning may attack the plastic and
stop the cap from functioning properly.
