    Before removing the bottom cover, prepare the computer for disassembly (see Preparation for disassembly on page 34). Remove the bottom cover: Remove the five Phillips 2.5 × 5.0 screws that secure the bottom cover to the computer. Starting near the hinges, use a nonmarking, nonconductive tool to release the edges of the bottom cover from the computer (1).

To reduce potential safety issues, use only the user-replaceable battery provided with the computer, a replacement battery provided by HP, or a compatible battery purchased from HP. IMPORTANT: Removing a battery that is the sole power source for the computer can cause loss of information.
