To prevent damage to the computer, damage to a drive, or loss of information, observe these precautions: Before removing or inserting a hard drive, shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.

Wrist straps are flexible straps with a minimum of one megohm ±10% resistance in the ground cords. To provide proper ground, wear a strap snugly against the skin at all times.

    Component replacement procedures This chapter provides removal and replacement procedures. There are as many as 62 screws that must be removed, replaced, or loosened when servicing the computer. Make special note of each screw and screw lock size and location during removal and replacement.

  • Page 53 Lift the right side of the accessory cover until it detaches from the computer. Remove the accessory cover. The accessory cover is included in the Plastics Kit, spare part number 603679-001. Disconnect the hard drive cable from the system board. Use the Mylar tab (1) to lift the right side of the hard drive until it rests at an angle.
  • Page 54 If it is necessary to replace the hard drive bracket, remove the four Phillips PM3.0×3.0 screws (3) that secure the bracket to the hard drive. Lift the hard drive bracket straight up (4) and remove the bracket from the hard drive. NOTE: The hard drive connector, isolators, bracket, and screws are included in the Hard Drive Hardware Kit, spare part number 603676-001.

Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
