Preparing for an Infrared Connection

To establish a direct infrared connection between the computer
and another IrDA-compliant device, follow these steps:
If the connection is between two computers, ensure that each
computer has a different computer name, according to
Microsoft conventions.
Ensure that the infrared ports on both devices are enabled and
facing each other at a distance no greater than 1.5 feet (0.5
meter).
Aim the ports directly at each other. The maximum capture
angle is 30 degrees, each port aligned no more than 15 degrees
off the center line between ports.
Avoid interference from other infrared or audio remote control
devices, such as wireless headphones, by keeping such devices
away from the infrared connection.
Avoid direct sunlight or flashing incandescent light close to
the infrared ports. Some energy-saving fluorescent lights may
also interfere with infrared transmissions.
Keep the path between ports clear of objects that might
interfere with data transmission.
Do not move the computers during data transmission.
Because infrared equipment varies among manufacturers, it
NOTE:
may be necessary to place the two devices closer together and in
more direct alignment than recommended above.
