Registering the Cellular Phone with the Modem
The modem does not look for a cellular phone connection until
you enter a command to register the phone with the modem.
Thereafter (unless the &J command is changed), the modem will
look for the presence of the cellular phone and dial through it if it
is connected.
If you want to change the setting for the &J command
NOTE:
(telephone interface control), refer to the online Modem Help for
more information.
You can use the Windows HyperTerminal Command Mode to
register the cellular phone with the modem. Click StartÆ
ProgramsÆAccessoriesÆHyperTerminal. At the prompt enter
and the command for the brand of cellular phone that you have:
Motorola, JVC, or Pioneer
$M1
Nokia, Technophone, AT&T (selected models), or Tandy
$M2
GE or Ericsson
$M4
Placing Cellular Calls with the Modem
After you have registered the cellular phone with the modem, you
can use the communications program to place calls just as you
would over a standard phone line.
To improve a cellular phone connection, place the phone upright
near a window. Do not lay the phone on a metal surface, and do
not move the computer or phone while transmitting or receiving
data. For more information about conditions that may affect data
being sent over cellular networks, see the online Modem Help.
While a registered cellular phone is connected, the modem
NOTE:
low-power mode will not automatically initiate, but the computer
Suspend mode will not be affected.
