External Monitor/Overhead Projector

The computer can support an external display with a resolution up
to 1280 × 1024 in 256 colors.
When an external monitor or overhead projector is connected, the
factory-default is to simultaneously display on both screens. The
hotkey switches between simultaneous display, the external
Fn+F4
display, and the internal computer display.
If the external display remains blank after it warms up, press the
hotkey to switch displays.

Display Settings

Refer to the documentation included with the external monitor or
overhead projector for the settings it supports.
You can verify or change the external monitor (CRT) or overhead
projector resolution and refresh rate either through the
CRT/Overhead Projector icon or the Display icon:
Double-click the CRT/Overhead Projector icon in the notifica-
tion area (system tray) on the taskbar for a popup menu of
resolution/refresh rates.
Double-click the Display icon in the taskbar system tray or in
Control Panel to open Display Properties. Click the Compaq
tab to verify or change the external display (CRT) Resolution
and Refresh (Hz). To see how the settings will affect the
displayed image, click the Test button.
In simultaneous mode, a setting for the external display
NOTE:
different from the internal display is not selectable unless the
Color Palette is set to 256 colors in Display Properties.
To verify or change the Color Palette and/or Desktop Area in
Display Properties, click the Settings tab. The Desktop Area can
be set equal to, larger than, or smaller than the display Resolution.
Setting the Desktop Area larger or smaller than the Resolution
enables image panning or centering/expanding respectively.
