Solving Battery and Battery Gauge Problems
Problem
After the battery light
began blinking, com-
puter beeped twice
and the power/
suspend light began
blinking.
Battery light blinks to
indicate low-battery
condition, but
computer does not
beep.
Battery light does
not turn on to indi-
cate battery pack is
charging.
Battery pack is warm
to the touch after
charging.
Every time the
computer is turned
on, the date and
time have to be set.
Possible Cause
Hibernation has been
turned off, and the
computer has entered
a critical low-battery
condition.
Low-battery warning
beeps have been
disabled.
System beeps have
been turned down too
low.
Battery pack is at
least 93 percent
charged.
Battery pack was
exposed to tempera-
ture extremes.
Battery pack is at the
end of its life.
Warming occurs due
to charging.
Auxiliary battery
charge is low because
computer was not
connected to a power
source for extended
period of time.
Auxiliary battery is at
the end of its life.

Solution
To avoid losing unsaved
work, immediately con-
nect the computer to an
external power source or
replace the battery pack.
Enable low-battery warn-
ing beeps on the Battery
Conservation Settings
tab in Power Properties.
Press Fn+F5, then press
the right arrow key to
increase system beeps
volume.
No action is necessary.
Allow time for battery
pack to return to room
temperature.
Replace the battery
pack.
No action is required.
Connect the computer to
an external power source
for approximately 24
hours to fully charge the
auxiliary battery.
Contact your Compaq
authorized service
provider to replace the
auxiliary battery.
