There are as many as 40 screws that must be removed, replaced, and/or loosened when servicing Authorized Service Provider only parts.
  • Page 29 Remove the two screw covers (2). The screw covers are included in the Screw Cover Kit, spare part number L73740-001. Remove the four Phillips M2.0×5.6 screws (3) that secure the bottom cover to the computer. Insert a case utility tool (1) or similar thin plastic tool into the display hinge areas of the bottom cover. Separate the rear edge (2) of the bottom cover from the keyboard/top cover.

    Remove the USB/audio board (5). Reverse this procedure to install the USB/audio board and cable. Display assembly NOTE: The display assembly is spared at the subcomponent level. For display assembly spare part information, see the individual removal subsections. Before removing the display assembly, follow these steps: Shut down the computer.
  • Page 36 Disconnect the display panel cable (6) from the system board. Release the display panel cable from the retention clip (7) and routing channel built into the speakers. Remove the four Phillips M2.5×5.6 screws that secure the display assembly to the keyboard/top cover. Swing the keyboard/top cover (1) up and away from the display assembly.
  • Page 37 Slide the display assembly (2) away from the keyboard/top cover and remove the display assembly. If it is necessary to replace the display panel assembly or any of the display assembly subcomponents: Insert a case utility tool (1) or similar thin plastic tool into the top edge of the display panel assembly and separate the assembly (2) from the display back cover.
  • Page 38 Remove the display panel assembly. Position the display panel assembly with the panel facing down. IMPORTANT: Before placing the display panel assembly with the panel facing down, make sure there are no foreign objects (tools, screws) on the work surface. Failure to follow this note can lead to damage to the display panel assembly.
  • Page 39 Detach the G-sensor board (3) from the display back cover. (The G-sensor board is attached to the display back cover with double-sided adhesive.) The G-sensor board is available using spare part number L73658-001. If it is necessary to replace the display panel cable: Remove the display panel assembly.
  • Page 40 Remove the display panel cable (6). The display panel cable is available using spare part number L70823-001. If it is necessary to replace the webcam/microphone module: Remove the display panel assembly. Detach the webcam/microphone module (1) from the display back cover. (The webcam/microphone module is attached to the display back cover with double-sided adhesive.) Release the ZIF connector (2) to which the webcam/microphone module cable is connected, and then disconnect the webcam/microphone module cable from the webcam/microphone module.

Release the webcam/microphone module cable (3) from the display right hinge. Detach the webcam/microphone module cable (4) from the display back cover.     Backing up, resetting, and recovering Backing up You can back up data to an optional USB flash drive or SD memory card or through Google Drive™. For detailed information about creating a backup, go to http://www.support.google.com. Resetting A factory reset erases all the information on the computer, including all the files in the Downloads folder. Before resetting the computer, make sure to back up all files to an optional USB flash drive, SD memory card, or through Google Drive.

    Recovering When your Chrome operating system (OS) isn’t working properly, you can perform a recovery. A recovery reinstalls the operating system and software programs and restores the original factory settings. Locally saved files and saved networks are deleted for all accounts.
