IMPORTANT:
The top compression ring differs
from the second compression ring in shape and
color of the surface contacting the cylinder wall.

IMPORTANT:
The top compression ring and the
second compression ring are marked "RN" or "R".
When installing these piston rings, the marked
side must face toward the top of the piston.

IMPORTANT:
Position the piston rings so their
gaps are each staggered by approximately 90°, as
PISTON, CYLINDER, AND CRANKSHAFT
shown. Failure to stagger the piston ring gaps
may result in crankcase oil dilution.

Apply engine oil to the piston and the cylinder
walls. Use a piston ring compressor to insert the
piston and connecting rod assembly into the cylin-
der bore from the cylinder head side. Position the
"O" mark on the top of the piston to the flywheel
side.
