POWERHEAD
PISTON, CYLINDER, AND CRANKSHAFT

Installation

IMPORTANT:
Before installing the pistons and
the crankshaft, inspect and service the compo-
nents. Refer to "Inspection and Servicing" on
page 152.
IMPORTANT:
If the original components are not
replaced, each piston, wrist pin, connecting rod,
and connecting rod cap must be assembled and
installed in its original order and position.
Apply engine oil to the wrist pin and the pin bore in
the connecting rod. Insert the wrist pin through the
piston and the connecting rod.
Install new retaining rings to secure the wrist pin.

Make sure the connecting rod is installed in the
direction shown.
Make sure the retaining rings are installed with the
gap facing either up or down.
1. Oil hole
2. "O" mark (flywheel side of piston)

Apply engine oil to the oil ring.
Install the spacer to the piston, then the side rails.

When installing the spacer, do not allow
the ends to overlap in the groove.

Apply engine oil to the compression rings.

Install the second compression ring to the piston,
then the top compression ring.
