TROUBLESHOOTING

This section is prepared to help the owners / operators diagnose the probable causes and
determine appropriate corrective actions. For additional information on more specific trouble
shooting procedures, refer to Teledyne-Continental's Operator's Manual and their Maintenance
and Overhaul Manual.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO USE THIS MANUAL AS A GUIDE FOR PERFORMING REPAIR OR
OVERHAUL OF THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE OVERHAUL MANUAL MUST BE CONSULTED
PROBLEM

Engine
Insufficient fuel.

Carburetor float valve stuck shut.
Carburetor screen or jets plugged.
Insufficient priming (weak
explosions).
Excess priming (puffs of black
smoke).
Engine hot (vapor lock in fuel
system).
Low battery charge
Cold oil.
Incorrect starter adjustment.
Spark plugs fouled.
Spark plug cables defective.
Magneto breaker points burned or
fouled.
Magnetos incorrectly timed
internally or to engine.
Irregular
Incorrect idle mixture adjustment.

Leak in air induction system.

WARNING
FOR SUCH OPERATIONS.
Fill tank.
Clean tank vents, blowout supply
line, replace shut-off valve, repair
pump, and clean filter.
Remove carburetor and repair.
Remove and clean.
Repeat starting procedure with more
priming.
Clear cylinders by turning propeller
several revolutions, with ignition
switch "OFF", and throttle wide open.
Disconnect fuel line at carburetor
and purge system.
Recharge battery.
Turn propeller by hand several
revolutions to break loose congealed
oil.
Readjust shift lever screw.
Remove and clean. Check gaps.
Replace defective parts.
Remove oil from breaker.
Replace defective condenser.
Check and correct timing to overhaul
if internal engine.
Correct carburetor adjustment.
Disassemble, as required, and clean.
Remove and clean.
Tighten loose joints. Replace
damaged parts.
