PROBABLE CAUSE
Bungees are no longer strong
enough to return the landing
gear to its stops
Inspect for weak bungee cords
Broken steering chains, links or
springs
Broken rudder control cables
Steering springs have
weakened
Tire worn
Spring / chain tension
Tail wheel assembly has play or
is loose
Tail wheel assembled incorrectly
Fork binds in bracket because of
dirt or lack of lubricant
Broken leaf spring
Tail wheel tire over inflated
(applicable to optional Tail
wheel only)
Pressure build up in system
Foreign matter wedged in
brakes
Pistons cocked in cylinder
Piston Does Not Retract
Back pressure due to
malfunction of master cylinder or
parking valve
Water or ice in hydraulic system
REMEDY
Replace bungee cords
Replace bungee cords
Replace defective steering
chain, link, or spring
Replace broken rudder
control cables
Replace weakened steering
springs
Replace tire
Springs should neither be
slack or in tension when
wheel is centered
Ensure the tail wheel
assembly is properly secured
to the fuselage
Remove tail wheel assembly,
dismantle, clean, and
reassemble
Disassemble, clean,
reassemble, and lubricate
Replace leaf spring
Reduce pressure to 38 psi.
Bleed off excess pressure
Locate and remove
Inspect lining and/or disc for
wear and replace as
necessary
Remove Caliper and Inspect
Piston O-Ring and Cylinder
Bleed hydraulic system
and/or repair/replace master
cylinder or parking valve
Flush and bleed hydraulic
system (thaw ice first)
