Failure to perform certain procedures or note certain conditions may
6
impair the performance of the instrument. For maximum safety and
performance, please read and follow the procedures and conditions
8
8
outlined below.
9
!
9
Recharge battery only in a non-hazardous location.
10
10
!
Instrument tested for intrinsic safety in explosive gas/air (21.%
10
oxygen) mixtures only.
11
11
!
UV lamp requires periodic cleaning to function properly. The
11
frequency of cleaning is dependent upon the environment in which
12
12
the VX500 is used. Industrial Scientific recommends cleaning the
12
UV lamp after every 40 hours of use.
13
13
Any new or freshly cleaned 10.6 eV lamp requires a burn-in
!
13
13
period of 24 hours in order for the lamp's output to stabilize. This is
done by placing the lamp into the lamp conditioner found on the
14
charger/datalink accessory.
15
15
16
Always check the ionization potential of the target gas prior to
!
16
sampling to ensure proper lamp selection. For example, a 10.6 eV
16
lamp can only detect gases with an ionization potential below
16
10.6 eV.
17
17
18
The presence of water vapor in the sample stream can cause
!
18
quenching of the detector signal due to UV absorption.
18
19
Oxygen and methane are UV absorbers. Significant changes in
!
19
their concentration can cause a change in the PID signal.
19
19
20
!
Ammonia gas causes degradation of the VX500 PID module's
20
performance.
21
22
!
Ethylene gas does not provide a consistent signal therefore the
22
22
VX500 should not be relied upon to provide consistent readings
23
when monitoring ethylene.
24
24
A 5 minute warm-up time is required for VOC readings to fully
!
26
stabilize after power-up of the VX500.
