A natural or
artificial source

flash provided
too much light.

many dark
objects, such as
a black dog on
a black couch.
There was not
enough light.
The flash was
on, but the
subject was too
far away.

Solution
Try taking the picture from a
different angle. Avoid pointing
the camera directly toward a
bright light or reflective surface on
a sunny day. Use the
setting (see page 33) or adjust
the
Exposure Compensation
page 32).
Decrease the
Exposure
Compensation
the dark objects in the scene will
not look "washed-out."
Wait for natural lighting
conditions to improve, add
indirect lighting, use the flash
(see page 33), or adjust the
Exposure Compensation
page 32).
Make sure your subject is within
the flash working distance (see
Appendix B: Specifications
page 105). If so, try using the
Flash Off
setting (see
page 33), which will require a
longer exposure.
