Operation with boosters

Introduction
In order to shorten the travel times, it is possible to use a booster between the positioner and
actuator. The booster increases the air performance.
With single-acting positioners, you require a booster which must be connected to the air output
Y1.
With double-acting positioners, you require two boosters which must be connected to the air
outputs Y1 and Y2.
NOTICE
Avoid pressure variations
Pressure variations in the supply air PZ may occur depending on the booster used.
● Use separate supply lines, if possible. One supply line for the booster and one supply line
NOTICE
Note when selecting the boosters:
● Only boosters may be used which do not have a continuous air consumption in the setpoint
● The boosters must have a bypass control.
A stable operating state will not be reached if these two points are not observed. All process
components involved are subject to faster wear.
Requirements
1. You operate the positioner with a booster.
2. '51.PNEUM' Pneumatics type (Page 164) parameter is set to 'booSt'.
Procedure
1. Check whether the restrictor(s) on the positioner are completely open. With a new
positioner, the restrictors are factory-set to open. The position of the restrictors is shown in
the figure in section Device components (Page 26).
2. Set '34.DEBA' Deadband of closed-loop controller (Page 154) to the largest value
permissible for your process. The largest value is usually 0.5.
3. Start the automatic initialization process as described under Commissioning (Page 105).
