    Attaching the Hand Strap To prevent accidental dropping of the camera, always use the strap. Attach the hand strap as follows: Thread the small loop of the hand strap through the strap eyelet on the camera. Pull the large loop through the small loop until the strap is firmly secured.

    Note • To prevent valuable data from being accidentally erased from an SD memory card you can slide the write protect tab (on the side of the SD memory card) to "LOCK".. • To save, edit, or erase data on an SD memory card, you must unlock the card.

    Record Mode Taking Pictures Your camera is equipped with both an optical viewfinder and a 1.5" LCD monitor to compose images. Taking images using the optical viewfinder will conserve battery power. If your batteries are low, it is recom-mended that you only compose images by using the viewfinder.

    Using the LCD monitor Turn the camera on by pressing the POWER button. Set the mode dial to the 5 mode or the M5 mode. By default, the LCD monitor is on. Put the subject of your photo right in the middle and press the shutter release button half-way.

    Using the Optical Zoom The lens moves when using zoom photography. Zoom photography allows you to take telephoto and wide-angle shots. The subject appears closer by pressing the z button and appears farther away by pressing the Z button. Set the mode dial to the 5 mode or the M5 mode. If required, turn on the LCD monitor by pressing the DISP.

    Digital Zoom Photography Using digital zoom, images appear closer. Whereas digital zoom is a compelling feature, the more an image is enlarged (zoomed), the more pixilated (grainier) the image will appear. The digital zoom function is only available when you set the LCD monitor and the digital zoom to on.

    Self-timer Photography When the self-timer is used, the camera automatically takes a picture after 10 or 2 seconds. This allows you to get into the scene when taking group images. Secure the camera to a tripod or place it on a stable surface. Power on the camera, and set the mode dial to the 5 mode or the M5 mode.

    Using the Macro Mode Use the macro (close-up) mode to shoot a close-up of a subject. Set the mode dial to the 5 mode or the M5 mode. Press the N button. The N icon appears on the LCD monitor. Compose the scene.

  • Page 25 Number of Recordable Images The frame counter indicates the approximate number of images that can be stored on the internal memory or the SD mem- ory card at the camera's image quality and size settings. The number of recordable images may vary depending on the recorded subject and the capacity of the memory card, or if there are files other than images, or when the recording is made while switching the picture quality/resolution.

    Taking Pictures Manually You can take pictures by manually adjusting conditions such as white balance, EV compensation and sharpness. For white balance, EV compensation or sharpness information, refer to WHITE BALANCE (P.44), EV COMPENSATION (P.44) or SHARPNESS (P.45) in Manual Record menu. To take pictures manually: Set the camera on by pressing the POWER button.

    Playback Mode In the 6 mode, you can view, magnify your images or play movies back. This mode even provides thumbnail images display and slide show, allowing you to quickly search for the image that you want or play the images back one by one automatically. Playing Back Photographed Images (Single-Frame Playback) Play back photographed still images one image at a time.

    Displaying Thumbnail Images This function allows you to view thumbnail images on the LCD monitor simultaneously so that you may search for a particular image. Set the mode dial to the 6 mode. The last recorded image appears on the LCD monitor. Press the ! button.

    Zoom Playback While reviewing your images, you may enlarge a selected portion of an image. This magnification allows you to view fine details. movies cannot be displayed using the zoom playback feature. Set the mode dial to the 6 mode. The last recorded image appears on the LCD monitor.

    Slideshow Display The slideshow function enables you to playback your images automatically in sequential order as a slide show. This is a very useful and entertaining feature for reviewing recorded images and for presentation. Set the mode dial to the 6 mode. Press the MENU button.

    Movie Mode Recording movies The movie mode allows you to record movies at a resolution of 320x240 pixels. Caution Voice cannot be recorded with this camera. Turn the camera on by pressing the POWER button. Set the mode dial to the 3 mode. The recordable movie time displays on the LCD monitor.

    Viewing movies Play back movies recorded on the camera. To view the recorded movies, follow the steps below: Set the mode dial to the 6 mode with the camera powered on. Select the movie that you want to view by using the # or $ button. Press the "( ) button to start.

    Deleting Images You can delete one image/movie or all images/movies at a time by pressing the button. To delete one image at a time: Set the mode dial to the 5 mode, the M5 mode or the 6 mode. In the 5 mode or the M5 mode, only the last recorded image can be erased. In the 6 mode, select the image that you want to view by using the # or $ but- ton.

    Setting the DPOF DPOF is the standard for recording printing information directly on the SD memory cards and other media. Files saved in the DPOF format can be printed using compatible printers or through laboratory printing service. Set the mode dial to the 6 mode.     Viewing on a Television You can also view the still images and movies you have taken on a TV screen. The camera displays everything on the TV screen just as on its LCD Monitor.
