In some areas outside the United States, datums other
than WGS-84 or NAD-83 may be used. If the GNC 420 is
authorized for use by the appropriate Airworthiness
authority, the required geodetic datum must be set in the
GNC 420 prior to its use for navigation.
Navigation must not be predicated upon the use of
TERRAIN.
The terrain display is intended to serve as a situational
awareness tool only. It may not provide either the
accuracy or fidelity, or both, on which to solely base
decisions and plan maneuvers to avoid terrain or
To avoid giving unwanted alerts, TERRAIN must be
inhibited when landing at an airport that is not included in
the airport database.
The TERRAIN databases have an area of coverage as
detailed below:
The Terrain Database has an area of coverage
from North 75° Latitude to South 60° Latitude in all
longitudes.
The Airport Terrain Database has an area of
coverage that includes the United States, Canada,
Mexico, Latin America, and South America.
The Obstacle Database has an area of coverage
that includes the United States.
