INSTALLATION The charging station must be positioned with a great deal of free space in front of it (at least 3 metres). It should also be centrally placed in the working area to make it easier for the robotic lawnmower to reach all areas in the working area.
  • Page 20 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 20 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION If the installation is done in a working area with a steep slope (such as around a house on a hill), the charging station should be placed in the area at the bottom of the slope.

1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 23 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION 3.4 Installation of the boundary wire The boundary wire can be installed in one of the following ways: Securing the wire to the ground with staples. It is preferable to staple down the boundary wire if you want to make adjustments to the boundary wire during the first few weeks of operation.
  • Page 24 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 24 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION Working area boundaries If a high obstacle, for example a wall or fence, borders the working area, the boundary wire should be laid 30 cm from the obstacle. This will prevent the robotic lawnmower from colliding with the obstacle and reduce body wear.
  • Page 25 Instances of this are 25% slopes or a passage that is narrower than 60 cm (90 cm for GARDENA R38Li, 40Li, R45Li, R50Li). Lay the boundary wire then around the secondary area so that it forms an island outside of the main area.
  • Page 26 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 26 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION Passages when mowing Long and narrow passages and areas narrower than 1.5 - 2 metres should be avoided. When the robotic lawnmower mows, there is a risk that it travels around in the passage or area for a period of time.
  • Page 27 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 27 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION Laying the boundary wire If you intend to staple down the boundary wire: • Cut the grass very low with a standard lawnmower or a trimmer where the wire is to be laid.
  • Page 28 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 28 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION Laying the boundary wire in towards the charging station The boundary wire must be laid in line with the rear end of the charging station and at least 1.5 metres straight out to the right and left of the station.

INSTALLATION 3.5 Connecting the boundary wire Connect the boundary wire to the charging station: IMPORTANT INFORMATION The boundary wire must not be crossed when connecting it to the charging station. The right hand wire end must be connected to the right hand pin on the charging station and the left hand wire end to the left pin.

1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 30 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION 3.6 Installation of the guide wire The guide wire is a wire that is laid from the charging station towards, for instance, a remote part of the working area or through a narrow passage to be then connected with the boundary wire.
  • Page 31 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 31 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION Laying and connecting the guide wire Run the wire through the slot in the bottom of the charger plate. Fit the connector to the guide wire in the same way as for the boundary wire described in 3.5 Connecting the boundary wire on page 29.
  • Page 32 1157069-26,R40Li_GB.book Page 32 Wednesday, November 19, 2014 5:02 PM 3. INSTALLATION - In the passage, the guide wire must therefore be placed so that the robotic lawnmower has as much space to run in as possible. The distance Maximum between the boundary wire and the guide wire distance must however be at least 30 cm.
