press the foamelement t o rinseout dirt andwater.Donot twist, thiscould
damage or tearthe foamelement. A llowto dry thoroughlybeforeusing.Oil
the foamelementwitha light engineoil.

Carefully placefoamfilter backinto canister a ssembly a ndreattach the
rubbercapremoved earlier.

Snap the carbon canister f ilter assembly backinto place underthe inner
engineshroud. S eeFigure 21inset.
IMPORTANT: Besurethe anglednipplepointsupwardsintothe shroudto
avoidinterference withthe autochoke linkage.
7.
Place the innerengineshroudbackontothe engineandfastenbackdown
with nutsremoved earlier.
8.
Reattach the outerengineshroud.
Fuel Filter
Thefuelfilter cannotbecleaned andmustbereplaced onceayearor every100
operatinghours;moreoften if runwith oldgasoline.
1.
Remove a ll fuel fromtank byrunningengineuntil it stopsfrom lackof fuel.
2.
Remove h oseclampfromfuel lineandremove fuel linefromtank outlet.See
Figure 22.
3.
Pullout oldfuel filter fromtank outlet. Replace w hendirty or damaged.
4.
Grasp newfuelfilter from shouldered endandinsertit completely to the
shoulder intothe tank outlet.
5.
Replace f uel lineandhoseclamp.
Clean
Engine
Dailyor before everyuse,cleangrass, c haffor accumulated d ebrisfrom
engine.Keep linkage, s pring, a ndcontrols dean.Keep areaaroundand
behindmufflerfreeof anycombustible d ebris.
Keeping engineclean allowsair movement a round engine.
Engine partsshouldbekeptdeanto reducethe riskofoverheating and
ignitionofaccumulated debris.
Donotusewater to dean engine parts. Watercould contaminatefuel
system.Usea brushor dry cloth.
LUBRICATION
Blade Control
Lubricate pivot pointsonthe bladeanddrivecontrolat leastonceaseason with
light oil.These controlsmustoperatefreelyin bothdirections. S eeFigure 23.
Belt Care
NOTE: Several components m ustberemovedinorderto change the mower's
self-propulsion d rivebelt. See an authorized Sears Service Center t o have yourbelt
replaced.
