    P e r s o n a l H a n d s e t The Linn AV 5101 Personal Handset puts you in control of your entire AV and hi-fi system from wherever you are sitting.
  • Page 12 Handset operation keys These keys determine the operation of the whole handset, or instruct it to learn commands: What it does STANDBY Switches the System Controller or a source to standby. KNEKT Selects the source from the main system in a KNEKT Multi-Room system.
  • Page 13 FM tuners. Press one of the Audio/Video source select keys to specify which source you want to control. The source control keys are initially set up to control Linn products. You can also program them for any of your other equipment using the Personal Handset LEARN function.
  • Page 14 These keys provide additional functions for controlling your audio and video sources. They can be programmed for the other equipment in your system using the LEARN function. These keys can also be used with Linn CD players and FM tuners to enter a track number, preset number, or station frequency.

    STANDBY key, and KNEKT key can operate either the AV 5103 System Controller or another amplifier, if the Personal Handset has learnt its commands; see Programming the AV Personal Handset, page 19. To change from operating the AV 5103 to operating a learnt amplifier: Press the Audio/Video source select key for the learnt amplifier.

    R e c o r d i n g m a c r o s A very convenient and powerful feature built into the Personal Handset is the ability to record a sequence of your commands, and replay them with a single key press.

    E x a m p l e s o f m a c r o s Playing a video at night The following macro switches the System Controller on, selects Midnight Movie mode, selects the VCR source, and starts the video playing: STANDBY, QUIET, PROG, VCR, PLAY.

    A V 5 1 0 1 w i t h L i n n e q u i p m e n t The Linn AV Personal Handset provides a range of special functions for controlling the Linn AV 5103 System Controller, and for setting it up to suit the other equipment in your system. For full information about using the Personal Handset with the System Controller please refer to the AV 5103 System Controller Owners Manual.
  • Page 19 Select a track by number like this Press the corresponding digit on the Personal Handset. To enter a track number greater than 9 press and hold down the key for the first digit until a dash appears on the CD player display, then press the key for the second digit.

    C o n t r o l l i n g L i n n t u n e r s The Personal Handset lets you operate most of the functions of the Linn KREMLIN or KUDOS radio tuners. Select the radio tuner like this Press the TUNER Audio/Video source select key on the Personal Handset.

    C o n t r o l l i n g L i n n p r e a m p l i f i e r s a n d a m p l i f i e r s You can control the Linn MAJIK control amplifier or WAKONDA and KAIRN preamplifiers using the Personal Handset, as described in the following sections.

    System Controller and any other Linn equipment in your system, the Personal Handset can learn commands from the infra-red handsets for other equipment you may own. This allows you to program your Linn Personal Handset so that it is the only handset you need in your system, allowing you to control all your hi-fi, audio, and video components from a single convenient keypad.

    A l i g n m e n t o f h a n d s e t s Before attempting to learn new commands align the AV 5101 Personal Handset and the infra-red handset as described in Diagram 1.

    L e a r n i n g c o m m a n d s f r o m a n i n f r a - r e d h a n d s e t The AV 5101 can learn two distinct sets of commands these being either for a source (TV, CD, VCR, etc) or an amplifier.
  • Page 26 (C) Learning keys Press the programmable key you want to program on the Personal Handset. For example to program the PLAY key press PLAY. The LEARN indicator will flash slowly to show that the Personal Handset is ready to receive a function from the other infra-red handset. Press and hold the key you want to learn on the infra-red handset.

    L e a v i n g t h e L e a r n P r o c e s s In order to exit the Learn Process after having successfully learnt key functions from another handset. Press the LEARN key. The LEARN indicator will turn off to show that the Personal Handset is now back in normal mode.

    m a i n t e n a n c e This chapter gives information about cleaning your Personal Handset, and replacing the batteries. C l e a n i n g t h e P e r s o n a l H a n d s e t Clean the Personal Handset like this Use a length of sellotape or masking tape to remove dust, hairs, etc.
  • Page 29 Replace the batteries like this Remove the old batteries and replace with four AAA or LR03 type batteries, checking the polarity carefully. Note: Do not touch the exposed contacts on the handset panel as this may damage the handset with static electricity. Re-assemble the handset like this Replace the panel in the handset case, locating the three LEDs in the corresponding holes in the case first.
