Using Windows
System Restore
System Restore tracks the changes to your computer and creates a restore point when it detects the
beginning of a change. It will undo harmful changes to your computer and restore its settings and
performance including your personal documents and email.

The computer is powered on, but the screen is blank.
Check the power status LED on the notebook computer or the monitor.
If it is not lit, refer to the instructions in
If it blinks amber, your computer is in a power saving mode. To proceed with normal operation,
move your mouse, tap the touch pad or briefly press the power button.
If it lights green, the LCD panel of your notebook computer may not be selected. Note that function
keys are printed in a different colour on the keyboard. Use these keys in combination with the Fn
key to perform specific actions (like increasing or decreasing the LCD brightness). Refer to the On-
line Documentation for more information about function keys.
The screen is difficult to read.
Adjust screen brightness and contrasts. Refer to the monitor's guide or to the On-line Documentation.

Keyboard and Pointing Devices

If problems appear intermittently, there may be a loose cable, dirt in the keyboard (if keyboard input is
incorrect). Clean it using a vacuum cleaner.
The pointer is difficult to point: a number of options in Windows
To access these options, click Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware (Windows
or Hardware and Sound (Windows Vista
The options let you control the size and colour of the cursor, cursor speed, the accepted double-click
speed, and selection button orientation.

Check that the speakers are connected properly (see "Audio").
Adjust the volume control on the speakers or on the computer (if relevant).
