Application (Record)
If you are not holding the camera while using zoom, such as during self-timer
recording (→106), [Time Lapse Shot] recording (→150), or remote recording (→203), the
camera could tilt when the lens barrel extends, so be sure to secure the camera in
place on a tripod or by other means.
Do not touch the lens barrel during zooming.
Adjust the focus after adjusting the zoom.
The zoom ratio and the zoom bar displayed on the screen are estimates.
The camera may make a rattling noise and vibrate when the zoom lever is operated -
this is not a malfunction.

Zoom types and use

The zoom ratio changes when the picture size is changed.
Optical Zoom
Zooming in up to 30x is possible if pictures without [
Size] on the [Rec] menu.
Optical Zoom cannot be used in the following cases:
• [Macro Zoom]
• [3D Photo Mode] Scene Mode
Extended optical zoom
Zooming in up to 58.6x is possible when pictures with [
[Picture Size] on the [Rec] menu (→141). EZ is short for "Extended optical zoom".
Extended optical zoom cannot be used in the following cases:
• [Macro Zoom]
• When recording motion pictures
• When the [Burst] setting is set to [
• Scene Modes ([HDR], [High Sens.], [High Speed Video], [3D Photo Mode])
• [Creative Control] Mode ([Impressive Art], [Toy Effect])
• When the [Quality] setting is set to [
