"s" appears instead of the album title.
A character that cannot be displayed on this
unit has been entered.
t Rename the title with characters which can
be displayed on this unit.
"CD" is not displayed while selecting the
source with a CD inserted.
• The CD is inserted upside down.
• The inserted CD does not include any music
files.
• The unit is recognising the CD.
t Try again after a while.
The rotary commander (optional) cannot be
operated.
Rotate the dial at the bottom of the rotary
commander until it can be operated.
Playback
Playback does not begin.
• Defective or dirty CD.
• Some CD-Rs/CD-RWs may not play due to
its recording equipment or the disc
condition.
MP3 files cannot be played back.
• Recording was not performed according to
the ISO 9660 level 1 or level 2 format, or
Joliet or Romeo in the expansion format.
• The file extension ".MP3" is not added to the
file name.
• Files are not stored in MP3 format.
• This unit can play MP3 files using MPEG1
Audio Layer3 as compression technology, its
sampling frequency is 44.1kHz at a variable
bit rate of between 32kbps and 320kbps.
MP3 files take longer to play back than
others.
After the unit reads all files on the disc,
playback may take more time than usual if:
– the number of folders or files on the disc is
very large.
– the folder and file organization structure is
very complex.
The sound skips from vibration.
• The unit is installed at an angle of more than
30°.
• The unit is not installed in a sturdy part of
the car.
The sound skips.
• Defective or dirty disc.
• The CD-R/CD-RW has been damaged.
CD playback sound is not normal.
Eject the CD and check its condition.
Playback of the "MG Memory Stick" has
stopped suddenly.
The terminals of the "Memory Stick" are dirty.
t Release and reinsert the "Memory Stick"
several times.

The playback period has expired.
t You cannot play back a track whose
playback period has expired.
The unit does not recognise the Network
Walkman.
• The USB connector or the digital I/O cable is
loosened.
t Reconnect the connectors.
• A USB hub is being used.
t Connect the Network Walkman without
using a USB hub.
There are only a few tracks can be checked
out. (Available recording time is short.)
There is data other than music files in the "MG
Memory Stick."
t Non-musical data in the "MG Memory
Stick" reduces the number of tracks that
can be checked out. Copy them to your
computer to free up memory on the "MG
Memory Stick."
The unit or the Network Walkman does not
operate normally when connected.
They are connected with a USB hub or a USB
extension cable.
t Normal operation is not guaranteed.
Connect using the supplied USB cable.
An "MG Memory Stick" cannot be inserted.
A "Memory Stick" was inserted upside down.
t Insert it correctly as illustrated (page 14).
Music data cannot be transferred to an "MG
Memory Stick" that has been used on other
devices.
• It is not an "MG Memory Stick."
t You can only use "MG Memory Stick."
• The "Memory Stick" has been formatted
with a computer.
t After copying the necessary data to your
computer, format the "MG Memory
Stick" on this unit following the
instructions (page 46).
