The Equation Solver
The SOLVE application, or Solver, lets you store equations and
solve
each
equation for any variable. The Solver simplifies equation-solving
by
creating a
menu consisting of the variables
in
the equation.
Values
ui"
stored and calculated using the rules
for
menu variables covered
in
chapter
1
(see
page
29).
For example,
you can enter the equation of
motion
for
free-fall:
n
I
STRt{tl.E=l,rt3HT
I
f,lE-
,
5:iG:iT I
f'lE*i
and
solve for DISIANCE, V0 (velocity at
f
:0),
G
(acceleration
of
grav-
ity), or
TIME when three values are known.
The number
of
equations
you can
store
and the number
of
variables
in
each
equation are limited only by the amount
of
avaiable memory.
The complexity
of
equations the Solver can interpret is increased by
the availability of the numeric functions
in
table 5-3 starting on
Page
98.
Example: The Equation
of
llotion for
Free-Fall. How far
does
an
object
fall in 5
seconds?
How long
does
it
take
for
an object to fall
500 meters? (The acceleration
of
gravity is
9.8A57 meters/second2.)
