Cooling fluid level (03_14, 03_15, 03_16)

The engine cooling system is of the liquid type with a circuit capacity of approximately
1.8 litres and the coolant constitutes of a 50% mixture of demineralised water and anti-
freeze glycol-ethylene-based solution with corrosion inhibiting agents. The supplied
coolant is pre-mixed and ready for use. For the engine to be running properly, the
coolant temperature should be maintained within the central portion of the instrument's
scale, «L».
If the pointer enters into the red zone, stop the engine, let it cool down and check the
fluid level; if the result is normal, turn to an Authorized Piaggio Service Centre. The
fluid inspection should be carried out every 6,000 km when the motor is cold,following

the methods indicated below.
a) Place the vehicle in a vertical position on the support.
b) Remove the plug from expansion tank «A» by turning it counter clockwise.
c) Look into the expansion tank: a mark in the plastic indicates the maximum and
minimum reference of the expansion tank.
d) Top up the cooling fluid if the fluid level is below the minimum level margin inside
the expansion tank. The fluid level should always be between the min. level and max.
level. If the fluid is near the minimum level, proceed with the top-up operation to be
carried out when the engine is cold.

If it is necessary to top up the cooling fluid frequently, or if the expansion tank is com-
pletely dry, you should look for the cause in the cooling system. It is therefore
indispensable to have the cooling system checked at an Authorized Piaggio Service
Centre.
The cooling fluid should be replaced every 2 years. Turn to an Authorized Piaggio
Service Centre for this operation.
N.B.
IF DURING A NON-DEMANDING RIDE THE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT COMES
ON, SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND ALLOW IT TO COOL DOWN. THEN CHECK
THE COOLANT LEVEL; IF THE LEVEL IS NOT CORRECT, CONTACT AN AU-
THORISED SERVICE CENTRE.
