If you experience any of
the foollowing
difficulties
while using the system, use this
troubleshooting
guide to help remedy the
problem before requesting repairs. Should
any problem pessist, consult your nearest
Sony dealer.
screen becomes black and white when you
play a disc recorded in the NTSC color
system.

Check that the AC power cord is connected
securely.
The comlecting cords are not connected
securely.
The connecting cords are damaged.
'IXe system is not connected to the correct TV
input jack (page 23).
The video input on the TV is not set so that
you can view pictures fmm the system.
The disc is dirty or ilawed.
If the picture output from your system goes
through your VCR to get to your TV, the
copy-protection signal applied to some DVD
programs could affect picture quality. If you
still experience problems even when you
connect your system directly to your TV, try
connecting your system to your TV's S-video
input (page 23).
The comrecting cord ib not connected
securely.
The connecting cord is damaged.
Press MUTING on the remote if "MUTING
ON" is displayed on the front panel display.
The proteclivc device on the sysrem has been
activated because of a short circuit. Turn o#
the system. diminate the short-circuit
problem and turn on the power again.
The audio connecting cord is damaged.
Replace it with a new one.
The system is in pause mode or in SLOW-
lmolion Play mode. Press I:S- lo return to
normal play mode.
Fast ftlrward or f&i reverse is performed.
Press r3- to return to normal play mode.
Check the speaker settings (pages 25, 70).
Check that the speakers and components arc
connected correctly and securely.
Adjust the front balance parameter in the
LEVBL
111c11u
(pages 29,72).
Check that the speakers and components are
connected securely.
Check that the connecting cords are away
from a tmnsl'ormer or motor, and at least
3.0 meters (10.0 ft) away from a TV set or
fluorescent light.
Move your TV away from (41e audio
components.
The plugs and jacks arc dirty. Wipe them with
a cloth slightly moistened with alcohol.
Clean the disc.
