3.42 Compression

This function compresses the data to make it smaller when images are scanned.
Use of this function has a number of benefits: for instance, the size of the files
transferred from the scanner is reduced, enabling many images to be saved, and the
scanning speed is not decreased.
It may not be possible to use this function depending on the application and image
file format. For instance, with the bitmap format (*.bmp) often used by Microsoft
Windows
Select a compression format which is supported by the application you are using and
by all the applications which will use the captured data.
PIE supports the following compression systems:
• CCITT-G3
• CCITT-G4
• JPEG
The CCITT-G3 and CCITT-G4 systems can be used only for black and white data in
the Black and White mode and MultiStream (Binary&Gray or Binary&Color) mode.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
• When the G3 or G4 compression system is used to scan in the Halftone (dither)
mode the kind of the document most of whose pages consist of photos, the data

• With JPEG compression, the picture quality will deteriorate and parts of the image
information will be lost at some compression rates.
