6.1 Methods of Stacking Expansion Units
Stacking expansion units with the KX-NS500 allows you to expand the usage of legacy terminals and trunks.
When expansion units are stacked, the KX-NS500 will control communication, as well as all IP terminals on
the site.
Note
For details about connecting an expansion unit to a KX-NS500, refer to the 4.6.1 EXP-M Card
(KX-NS5130) in this manual.
There are 2 ways of stacking Expansion Units with the KX-NS500.
Case 1
Stacking expansion units to a KX-NS500 (not running).
To stack expansion units to a KX-NS500 which is not running currently, refer to "Procedure for Case 1 and
Case 2".
Case 2
Stacking expansion units to a KX-NS500 (running).
To stack expansion units to a KX-NS500 which is already running, refer to "Procedure for Case 1 and Case
2".
Stacking Procedures
The following procedures show how to stack expansion units in each case.
CAUTION
When installing or removing the optional service cards, the power switch must be turned off.
When installing or removing the optional service cards, do not put pressure on any parts of the mother
board. Doing so may result in damage to the PBX.
Notice
If there is already a expansion unit stacked and connected to a EXP-M card installed in a KX-NS500, you
can skip shutting down the KX-NS500 in the following procedures.
Note
For information about starting the KX-NS500 for the first time, refer to "4.13 Starting the KX-NS500".
The Expansion Unit will be initialised when started up with a EXP-M card mounted and extension
numbers will be created automatically.
Procedure for Case 1 and Case 2
1.
Follow the procedure below for the expansion unit.
a.
Make sure the power switch is turned off. If the KX-NS500 is running, shutdown the KX-NS500 and
then turn off the power switch.
b.
Connect the LAN cable to EXP-S card.
2.
Follow the procedure below for the KX-NS500.
a.
Make sure the power switch is turned off.
b.
Insert a EXP-M card into the EXP-M card slot.
c.
Connect the LAN cable to EXP-M card.
3.
Follow the procedure below for the KX-NS500 and expansion unit KX-NS520.
a.
Turn the power switch on.
