Introduction
The Ethernet interface option is used as a communication link for the MOSCAD, MOSCAD-L and
MOSCAD- NFM units with Local Area Networks (LAN).
The Ethernet interface option supports TCP/IP protocol on a TWISTED PAIR (TP) connector, with
automatic polarity correction.
The Ethernet interface option is available in the following hardware configurations:
Ethernet Plug-in Option
Enclosed in the CPU modules of the MOSCAD and MOSCAD-L, the Ethernet Plug-in provides direct
connection to LAN. When Ethernet Plug-in board is installed, Port 3 serves for Ethernet connection. Use
shielded cable for LAN connection. Install suppression core (Fair-Rite
LAN connection, as shown in the figure below.
N ote: Due to physical limitations, the Ethernet Plug-in board cannot be installed in MOSCAD CPU

module that is already configured with a memory expansion board.

  • Page 2 External Ethernet Unit Option Enclosed in a plastic box, the Ethernet unit provides an RS-232 port for connection of MOSCAD units to LAN. The external Ethernet unit is powered by 12VDC and has indication LED's on its front panel. The external Ethernet unit is used with the MOSCAD-NFM, and with CPU modules of the MOSCAD that are not enhanced with an on-board Ethernet Plug-in option.

  • Page 6 Upgrading the Ethernet Unit/Ethernet Plug-in The operating system within the Ethernet unit may be upgraded, when required, by connecting a PC running the ToolBox System Downloader to the Ethernet unit (see figure below). The D-type (female) adapter should be configured as described in the table below. This adapter and cable directly connects to an RS-232 connector on the PC.
