Telnet is disabled by default. It must be enabled by using the web-based interface
or the console interface and a serial cable connection. The procedure for enabling
Telnet by using the web-based interface is described in the
UDP Services
section.
To open the switch's command-line interface by running Telnet in the Windows
command-line:
Select Start > Run.
Enter cmd in the Open field and press Enter.
Type telnet, a space, and the switch IP address. For example, c:\>telnet
192.168.1.254.
Press Enter. The switch's command-line interface opens.
Enter the username cisco (default) and press Enter.
Enter the password cisco (default) and press Enter.
If this is the first time that you have logged on with the default username and
password, or the switch has been rebooted to factory defaults, you are asked to
change your password. The following message appears:
Please change your password from the default settings. Please change the
password for better protection of your network. Do you want to change the
password (Y/N) [Y]?
Enter Y, and set a new administrator password.
You are now ready to configure the switch. Refer to the
Plus Switches Command Line Interface Reference Guide
Make sure that any configuration changes made are saved before exiting.
