Preparing for surround sound

Speaker settings

To enable you to obtain optimum enjoyment from the receiver's listening
modes, make sure to complete the speaker settings (subwoofer, front,
center, and surround speakers) as described below.

Turn on the power to this receiver by pressing POWER and
ON/STANDBY ( ) or POWER (

Select a speaker system.
1 Press the SET UP key such that the subwoofer setting indica-
tion "SUBWOOFER" scrolls across the display.
"SUBWOOFER" will be scrolled from right to left

2 Use the MULTI CONTROL knob or keys to select the appro-
priate subwoofer setting.
1 ON
: Subwoofer setting mode to the receiver is ON.
2 OFF
: Subwoofer setting mode to the receiver is OFF.
• The initial setting is "SUBWOOFER ON".
• When "SUBWOOFER OFF" is selected, the front speakers are
automatically set to "LRG" and the procedure skips to step 5.
• When subwoofer output sound is required, select "FRONT NML".

4 Use the MULTI CONTROL knob or keys to select the
appropriate front speakers setting.
1 NML/THX (normal) : Average size front speakers are
2 LRG (large)
• Under certain circumstances , for "FRONT LRG" selection, no sound
will be heard from the subwoofer even when it is set to ON. However,
if you select SW RE-MIX ON when subwoofer is selected, you may
hear sound from the subwoofer.
5 Press the SET UP key to accept the setting.
• The center speaker setting indication "CENTER" scrolls across the
display.
6 Use the have MULTI CONTROL knob or keys to select the
appropriate center speaker setting.
If you selected "LRG" as the front speakers setting,
1 NML/THX (normal) : An average size center speaker is
2 LRG (large)
3 OFF
If you have selected "NML" as the front speakers setting,
1 NML/THX
2 OFF
7 Press the SET UP key to accept the setting.
• The surround speaker setting indication "SURROUND" scrolls
across the display.
8 Use the MULTI CONTROL knob or keys to select the appropri-
ate surround speaker setting,
If you have selected "LRG" as the center speaker setting,
1 NML/THX (normal)
2 LRG (large)
3 OFF
If you have selected other than "LRG" as the center
speaker setting,
1 NML/THX
2 OFF
9 Press the SET UP key to accept the setting.
• The subwoofer remix setting indication "SW RE-MIX" scrolls

appropriate subwoofer remix setting.

• The receiver enters the speaker volume level adjustment
mode.
• In step 4, indications appear only for the selected channels of
the speakers that require adjusting.
