Managing General System Settings

This chapter describes how to set system information, such as the hostname,
and time settings, and how to select the Switch Database Management
(SDM) template to use on the switch.
For the N2000 and N3000 series switches, this chapter also describes how to
configure the Power over Ethernet (PoE) settings.
For the N3000 series switches, this chapter also describes how to view back-
panel expansion slot information.

System Settings Overview
The system settings include the information described in Table 12-1. This
information helps identify the switch.
Table 12-1. System Information
Feature
System Name
System contact
System location
Asset tag
Description
The switch name (host name). If you change the system name,
the CLI prompt changes from console to the system name.
Identifies the person to contact for information regarding the
switch.
Identifies the physical location of the switch.
Uniquely identifies the switch. Some organizations use asset tags
to identify, control, and track each piece of equipment.
