8. REMOVE TIMING GEAR COVER
(a) Remove the 14 bolts. clamp and bracket.
(b) Pry out the timing gear cover.
9. REMOVE NO.2 CYLINDER BLOCK INSULATOR

REMOVE OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT GEAR
Using SST. remove the drive shaft gear.

11. CHECK THRUST CLEARANCE OF IDLER GEAR
Using a feeler gauge. measure the thrust clearance.
Standard thrust clearance:
0.05 - 0.15 mm (0.0020 - 0.0059 in.)
Maximum thrust clearance:
0.30
mrn

in.)
If the thrust clearance is greater than maximum. ra·
place the thrust plate. If necessary. replace the idler
gear and/or idler gear shaft.

REMOVE IDLER GEAR
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and thrust plata.
(b) Using SST. turn the injection pump drive gear clock·
wise or counterclockwise and remove the idler gear.

(c) Remove the idler gear shaft.
13. REMOVE INJECTION PUMP DRIVE GEAR
(a) Using SST. loosen the gear nut.

Remove the gear nut and a-ring.
