Cylinder and Piston
Install the top ring [A] so that the "R" mark [B] faces up.
If a new piston or cylinder is used, check piston to cylin-
der clearance (see Piston/Cylinder Clearance), and use
new piston rings.
Apply engine oil to the inside wall of the small end of the
Face the circle mark [A] on the top of the piston must point
toward the front [B] of the engine.
Fit a new piston pin snap ring into the side of the piston
so that the ring opening [A] does not coincide with the slit
[B] of the piston pin hole.
When installing the piston pin snap ring, compress it only
enough to install it and no more.
Do not reuse snap rings, as removal weakens and
deforms them. They could fall out and score the
Dowel Pins [A]
New Cylinder Base Gasket [B]
The piston ring openings must be positioned as shown in
the figure. The openings of the oil ring steel rails must be
20° of angle from the opening of the oil ring expander.
