CHECKING THE PISTON PINS

The following procedure applies to all of the pis-
ton pins.
1. CHECK:
S piston pin
Blue discoloration/grooves ! Replace, then
inspect the lubrication system.
2. Measure:
S piston pin outside diameter a
Out of specification ! Replace the piston pin.
Piston pin outside diameter
3. Measure:
S piston pin bore inside diameter b
Out of specification ! Replace the piston
Piston pin bore inside diameter
4. Calculate:
S piston-pin-to-piston clearance
Out of specification ! Replace the piston pin.
Piston-pin-to-piston clearance =
Piston pin bore size b –
Piston pin outside diameter a
Piston-pin-to-piston clearance

INSTALLING THE PISTONS AND CYLINDERS

The following procedure applies to all of the pis-
tons and cylinders.
1. Install:
S oil ring expander
S lower oil ring rail
S upper oil ring rail
S 2nd ring
S top ring
NOTE:
Be sure to install the piston rings so that the
manufacuturer's marks or numbers face up.
