v The LED flashes when the battery is charging or performing a self-test.
v The LED is off if the battery or the battery charger failed.
The battery performs a self-test at startup and every 25 hours thereafter (during
which time the Battery LED flashes). If necessary, the battery begins recharging at
that time. If the battery fails the self-test, the Battery LED turns off, indicating a
battery fault.
Data caching starts after the battery completes the startup tests.
Figure 54 shows the location of the Battery LED on the front of the RAID
controller.

Using the diagnostic hardware

The DS4300 storage server comes with an LC wrap-plug adapter and LC-LC
coupler. The wrap-plug adapter and LC-LC coupler are used to perform the
loopback test and to identify fibre path problems. See the IBM TotalStorage DS4000
Problem Determination Guide for more information.
The loopback test and sendEcho test are described in the IBM TotalStorage DS4000
Problem Determination Guide. In the IBM TotalStorage SAN Integration Server
configuration, a loopback adapter (p/n 17P6918) is included to identify path
problems on the drive loop when using fibre channel 1.2-m copper cable (p/n
18P5237).

Symptom-to-FRU index

Use the storage management software to diagnose and repair controller unit
failures. Use Table 34 on page 77 also to find solutions to problems that have
definite symptoms.
Important: Before you replace any components, the DS4300 storage server
subsystem profile and Event logs must be saved using the DS4000 storage
management program. Perform the following steps to save the DS4300 storage
server subsystem profile and Event logs:
1. Start the DS4000 storage management program and open a Subsystem
2. Click View → Storage Subsystem Profile. The Subsystem Profile window
