Brake Disc Removal
Remove the wheels (see Front/Rear Wheel Removal in
the Wheels/Tires chapter).
Remove the mounting bolts, and take off the disc.
Brake Disc Installation
Install the brake disc on the wheel so that the marked side
[A] faces out.
Front Brake Disk [B]
Rear Brake Disk [C]
Apply a non-permanent locking agent to the threads of
the brake disc mounting bolts.
Torque - Front Brake Disc Mounting Bolts [D]: 9.8 N·m (1.0
kgf·m, 87 in·lb)
Rear Brake Disc Mounting Bolts [E]: 23 N·m (2.3
kgf·m, 17 ft·lb)
Brake Disc Inspection
Visually inspect the disc [A].
If it is scratched or damaged, replace the disc.
Measure the thickness of each disc at the point [B] where
it has worn the most.
2.85 ∼ 3.15 mm (0.112 ∼ 0.124 in.)
3.85 ∼ 4.15 mm (0.152 ∼ 0.163 in.)
2.5 mm (0.10 in.)
3.5 mm (0.14 in.)
Replace the disc if it has worn past the service limit.
Place a jack under the motorcycle so that the front/rear
wheel is raised off the ground.
Special Tools - Jack: 57001-1238
Jack Attachment: 57001-1608
Set up a dial gauge against the disc [A] as shown.
For the front disc, turn the handlebar fully to one side.
Measure the disc runout while rotating [B] the wheel
TIR 0.25 mm (0.010 in.) or less
Service Limit: TIR 0.3 mm (0.01 in.)
If the runout exceeds the service limit, replace the disc.
