Periodic Maintenance Procedures
Number Plate (see Number Plate Removal in the Frame
Handlebar Pad [A]
Handlebar Clamp Bolts [A]
Handlebar Clamps [B]
Loosen the front fork clamp bolts (upper) [A] on both
Remove the steering stem head nut [B] and washer [C].
Remove the steering stem head [D].
Turn the steering stem nut [A] with the steering stem nut
wrench [B] to obtain the proper adjustment.
If the steering is too tight, loosen the stem nut a fraction of
a turn; if the steering is too loose, tighten the nut a fraction
of a turn.
Special Tool - Steering Stem Nut Wrench: 57001-1100
Turn the nut 1/8 turn at a time maximum.
Install the steering stem head and washer.
Torque - Steering Stem Head Nut: 98 N·m (10 kgf·m, 72
Front Fork Clamp Bolts (Upper): 20 N·m (2.0
kgf·m, 15 ft·lb)
Tighten the two clamp bolts alternately two times to en-
sure even tightening torque.
Check the steering again.
If the steering is too tight or too loose, repeat the adjust-
ment as mentioned above.
Install the removed parts (see appropriate chapters).
