6. Ignition coil resistance
9 Disconnect the ignition coil connector from
the ignition coil terminal.
9 Connect the pocket tester ( Ω⋅ 1) to the igni-
tion coil as shown.

9 Measure the primary coil resistance.
Primary coil resistance
0.32–0.48 Ω at 20° C (68° F)
9 Connect the pocket tester ( Ω⋅
ignition coil as shown.

9 Measure the secondary coil resistance.
Secondary coil resistance
5.68–8.52 k Ω at 20° C (68° F)
9 Is the ignition coil OK?
YES

7. Pickup coil resistance
9 Disconnect the pickup coil coupler from the
wire harness.
9 Connect the pocket tester ( Ω⋅
pickup coil terminal as shown.
Positive tester probe
Negative tester probe
9 Measure the pickup coil resistance.
Pickup coil resistance
248–372 Ω at 20° C (68° F)
(between white and red)
9 Is the pickup coil OK?
YES

9 Check the main switch for continuity.
Refer to "CHECKING THE SWITCHES".
9 Is the main switch OK?
