5.2 Installing the System Software

5.2.1 Caution

Whenever the system software must be re-installed, be sure to consult with the user's ad-
ministrator and request needed precautions, as the additional fonts and job logs stored on
the HDD will all be deleted.

5.2.2 Items to Prepare

You will need the following when installing the system software:
• PC to which the Download Tool has been installed
• Centronics cable complying with IEEE 1284 (bearing the notation "IEEE 1284 Std-
compliant")
• System software CD-ROM

5.2.3 Preparing the iR-M1

Installation of the system software will clear the existing settings. As preparatory work,
print out the Configuration page.
1) Press the Menu button.
2) Select 'Print page'.
3) Select 'Configuration'.
4) When the configuration page indicating the settings information of the iR-M1 has been
printed, keep it at hand for use after the installation work.

5.2.4 Preparing the PC

Install the Download Tool.
The system software is supplied in the form of a CD-ROM. If you are using a PC without
a built-in CD-ROM drive, prepare an external CD-ROM drive. Or, copy the system files
from the System Software CD-ROM to the HDD of the PC from a network or using an ex-
ternal CD-ROM at the service station.
