Active Upgrade

This section describes Active Upgrade process.

Introduction

Active Upgrade process allows you to upgrade system and application software while the important
applications on an NEC Express5800/ft series system are online and available to users.
This section describes the overview of Active Upgrade process, the procedure and prerequisites
necessary for preparing the system for the upgrade process, and configuring and performing the
upgrade process with Active Upgrade Console. It also describes the troubleshooting when a
problem occurs in Active Upgrade process.

Notes

• Active Upgrade cannot be used in the environment where a mirrored volume (RAID-1) or RAID-5
volume is built on the dynamic disk.
• In the environment where the backup software such as ARCServe and BackupExec is installed,
ensure to stop the backup software service before performing Active Upgrade.
• When BackupExec is installed, there are restrictions as follows.
- After Split is completed, the Upgrade Side must be restarted.
• When using SCSI adopter, ensure to disable the SCSI adopter below and all the connected SCSI
devices from [Device Manager].
