Chapter 2. Installing the drive

This chapter provides information about how to install the drive and software.

Before you begin

Before installing the drive, read the following information carefully.
• The drive is shipped with a static-protective package. Do not open the package until you are ready to
install the drive.
• Limit your movement when installing the drive. Movement can cause static electricity to build up
around you.
• Carefully handle the drive. Shaking or dropping the drive might damage the components inside the drive.
• Take caution when connecting the power cable or SATA cable to avoid damaging the connectors or the
drive.

Installing the drive

You can install the drive horizontally or vertically in a computer. For both installation ways, you must secure
the disc that you insert before you close the disc tray, or the drive will not be able to read the disc correctly.
To install the drive, do the following:
1. Turn off all attached devices and the computer. Then, disconnect all power cords from electrical outlets
and disconnect all cables that are connected to the computer.
2. Remove the computer cover. Refer to the documentation that came with your computer for instructions
on removing the computer cover.
3. Locate the drive bay.
4. Touch the static-protective package that contains the drive to any unpainted surface for at least two
seconds. Then, take the drive out of the package.
5. Slide the drive into the drive bay.
6. Align the screw holes in the drive with those in the bracket. Then, tighten the screws to install the drive.
Note: Be sure to use the screws in the option package to install the drive. Using any screws other than
those provided might damage the drive.
