2.1.7.2 Capping Mechanism

The capping mechanism comes in close contact with the head surface so that it ensures
the airtightness of the cap to suck ink from the ink cartridge into the head and cap by
driving force of the Pump Unit. When the printer is in the standby mode or the power
to the printer is OFF, the cap is kept in close contact with the head surface to keep the
moisture inside the cap, thus preventing the print head from being stopped up with ink.
Figure below shows outline of capping operation.

2.1.7.3 Cap Unit

This printer does not use absorbing pads. To ensure the same effect as absorbing pads,
the Cap Unit of this printer is changed in the following points compared with that of
the conventional printer models:
1.
To keep the moisture inside the cap, the diameter of the ink discharge hole is
smaller than that for the conventional printers.
2.
At ink suction, the shape of the cap ensures that ink easily flows together with
bubbles into the ink discharge hole.
