Placing Originals in the Feeder (optional accessory)

When you place several sheets of originals in the original supply tray, they are automati-
cally fed to the platen glass for making copies. Two-sided originals can also be automati-
cally reversed to make two-sided copies.
■ You can place the following types of originals in the original supply tray:
- Original paper weight: 15 to 28-lb bond (50 to 105 g/m
- Original paper size:
- Original tray capacity: 11" x 17", LGL;
NOTICE:
❍ The following types of originals cannot be used in the feeder:
- Originals with tears, large holes or binding holes
- Severely curled originals or originals with sharp folds
- Clipped or stapled originals
- Carbon-backed paper or other originals that may not feed smoothly
- Transparencies or other highly transparent originals
❍ Color copies made with the iR C2058 or other originals that contain large toner quantities may not feed
properly through the feeder. For these types of originals, it is recommended that the platen glass be used
for making copies.
❍ Always check the condition of the originals that have been fed through the feeder repeatedly. When mak-
ing copies using the same originals repeatedly, the originals may become folded or wrinkled and may not
feed smoothly.
■ Orientation of Originals
You can place originals either vertically or horizontally. Always align the top edge of the original with the far
side edge (from the control panel).
NOTICE:
❍ Failure to do so may prevent you from making copies in the usual way depending on the copy settings that
have been selected.
MEMO:
LTR-size originals can be placed either vertically or horizontally. However, the copy speed for vertically
placed paper is somewhat faster than that for horizontally placed paper. Place the originals horizontally
when using preset copy ratios to convert one standard paper size to another (e.g. when converting an LTR-
size original to an 11" x 17"-size copy, using preset copy ratio). (LTR-R-sizes refer to horizontally placed
LTR-size paper.)
11" x 17", LGL-size originals must be placed horizontally.
STMT-size originals must be placed vertically. Note, however, when you make copies with STMT-size originals
using a 100% copy ratio, the originals will be automatically copied on LTR-size paper.
