4.12.4 Installing and Removing DIMMs

Before installing DIMMs, shut down the operating system, turn off power to the
system, unplug the power cord, and attach an antistatic wrist strap.
CAUTION: Unplug the power cords from the system and wait for the green LED
the PCI riser card to go out before removing or installing a DIMM.

Installing a Memory DIMM
To install a memory DIMMs, follow these steps.
1. To prepare to replace or add DIMMs, see preceding section 4.1.
2. Use Table 4-1 and the preceding Memory Configuration Rules to determine where sets
of memory DIMMs should be installed.
3. Shut down the system and remove the top cover as explained in Section 4.2.
4. Remove the optional center internal storage bay as explained in Section 4.3. This gives
access to the DIMM slots.
