Cleaning
1. Paper element: Tap the element lightly several times on a hard surface to
remove excess dirt, or blow compressed air [not exceeding 270 kPa (30
psi)] through the filter element from the inside out. Never try to brush the dirt
off; brushing will force dirt into the paper fibers. Replace the paper element
if it is excessively
dirty or dam-
aged.
2. Foam element cleaning:
Wash
the element in a solution of house-
hold detergent and warm water,
then rinse thoroughly, or wash in
nonflammable
solvent.

3. Allow the element
to dry thor-
oughly. Soak the element in clean
engine oil and squeeze out the
excess oil.

transfer to the paper filter ele-

ment, soaking and clogging it.
Installation
WING NUTS
1. Wipe dirt from the inside of the air
cleaner housing and cover. Be
careful to prevent dirt from enter-
ing the air duct that leads to the
carburetor.
2. Install the foam element over the
paper element,
and install the
assembled air filter.
3. Install the air cleaner cover, and
secure with the wing nuts.
